For her contribution into mentoring high school students for Science Olympiads and for the UCSD Computational Program during many years, in 2013, Julia was awarded the UCSD Certificate of Excellence.

Dr. Julia Ponomarenko has led the CRG Bioinformatics Core Facility since March 2015. She holds the MSc degree in Physics from the Novosibirsk State University, Russia, and the PhD in Computational Biology. In 2002, she moved to the San Diego Supercomputer Center of the University of California San Diego (UCSD), USA, where until 2015 she had served as Principal Investigator funded by the USA NIH (NHGMS, NIAID) and NSF agencies.
