From 2006 to 2010 I was a postdoctoral researcher at the Design of Biological Systems Group of the Center for Genomic Regulation in Barcelona, studying DNA-binding proteins (meganucleases, zinc fingers, transcription factors,...) and how to change their specificity using available solved structures of the complexes.
Between Sept 2005 and Sept 2006 I was at the Bioinformatics Unit at the Spanish National Cancer Center (CNIO) in Madrid, Spain. We developed several web server applications: IDconverter and the IDClight. Both are tools for the quick conversion of gene, clone or protein identifiers into other identifiers or other information that may enrich the overall information the user has of her own data. Also, we at the Bioinformatics Unit we have built a suite for the analysis of genomic data called Asterias, to which I've contributed with IDconverter, IDClight, preP, (a preprocessing tool) and PaLS (Pathway and Literature Strainer).
My previous bioinformatics experience was at the Adam Godzik's lab at The Burnham Institute in La Jolla, USA. There, I studied protein structures using networks. We analyzed the thermostability of proteins from Thermotoga maritima (a bacteria that grows at 80 degrees Celsius) and compared it with proteins from other mesophilic bacteria.
